It’s pretty hard to believe until you watch the video, but Pat Robertson essentially told CBN viewers this morning that Haiti brought yesterday’s devastating earthquake on themselves. Only he pronounced the disaster-stricken nation as “Haitia.”
Daily Kos member Username4242 has helpfully typed out a transcript of the appalling statement, which occurred during a solicitation for donations to help victims of the crisis.
And you know Christy, something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French, uh, you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True story, and so the Devil said OK it’s a deal. And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they’ve been cursed by one thing after the other desperately poor. That island is Hispanola is one island. It’s cut down the middle. On one side is Haiti on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. Uh, they need to have, and we need to pray for them a great turning to God and out of this tragedy. I’m optimistic something good may come but right now we’re helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable.
This whopper of a quote — “true story!” — came minutes after he’d asked a genuinely concerned spokesperson for Operation Blessing whether the massive earthquake might actually be “a blessing in disguise,” because it might hasten the modernization of Haiti. What a guy.
All of this is just a way to say that the first thing that went through my mind when I heard that this had happened was “Wait — Pat Robertson is still alive?”

My comment is this…hypocrites!! Men of God speaking for the devil himself! I knew all day that one of these nut bags would surface and even Rush’s comment I knew was coming just not sure who it would be but we can agree on one thing this will happen right through President Obama’s 1st term and the second one too. I love when they talk like the morons they are because they prove to everyone every day that they are all about LIES LIES and more LIES!! Thank GOD for the people in this country with rational minds who know the truth behind these hypocrites looking for attention like little girls!! Pat why don’t you take your ass down to Haiti and make those comments on the street and see what happens to you. At least the US Ambassador from Haiti addressed this moron appropriately and everyone of us should do the same!! Morons!!

This is so weird/scary/ignorant/detached from realty. I wonder if Pat Robertson donated money to Haiti to help the Red Cross. And since the Red Cross and USAID and all these organizations are helping Haiti right now, does this mean they are just the Devil’s playthings? Geez, and I thought they were doing so much good. I was all wrong.
I am not ashamed of being a Christian, but I am ashamed of Pat Robertson…His comment on Haiti was disgusting and appalling to me.
If everyone were to be held responsible for the acts of our forefathers in regard to heaven, I don’t believe any of us would get there.
His lack of compassion to those in need disgusts me. Has he never heard of logistics, while they live in a beautiful location, they also live in one that is very suseptible to nature. God loves you Haiti, and shame on you Pat Robertson.
I would personally like to send my deepest feelings of sisterhood, and what possessions??? to those in Haiti. I am a Katrina Survivor, and we all know that it hit Mississippi and New Orleans due to our debauchery…right?
